What can I expect in our first appointment?
The initial appointment will be for four hours.
- We explore the case to make sense of it.
- We make sure that YOU understand what is going on with your health - this is the most important element.
- We order any testing we need in order to treat.
- We determine an overall and specific treatment plan.
The appointment is really just the start of your journey with us; from that moment you will have full access to your health coach to help you actually achieve the change and results you want.
Do I really need to make changes?
If the way you have been living has contributed to your poor health, a pivot away from some of the nutritional and lifestyle elements will certainly be required to elevate that health profile. While some short-term adaptations may make a big difference there might be other elements that will simply become part of how you live. When you realise how amazing you can feel, this won’t feel at all like a burden.
What is Health Coaching?
Health coaching a supportive and instructive strategy for wellness in which one on one support is given to enable our patients to overcome obstacles. Health coaching teaches our patients how to make necessary lifestyle, mindset and dietary changes. These changes can be overwhelming for a lot of people so having someone to coach you through the finer points and teach you how to implement change can be a game changer. Coaching can be delivered in person, by Skype or over the phone.
What are the fees?
The investment for our six month signature program is $5800 for Jabe, and $4800 for Rebecca, which includes as many appointments with your functional medicine practitioner and as much time with your health coach as you need to get results.
Whether this represents good value for you depends on how you look at it...
In our opinion, expensive is spending money on things that don't yield a result, and on emergency procedures when it all goes horribly wrong. Costly is missing out on living life due to health concerns.
Good value is getting what you pay for, and when it comes to your health, you really should want to get it right.
We don't want to convince you to work with us; we only work with those who are invested, and truly committed to achieving their change.
What are the payment terms?
A deposit $870 is required upon booking, and the remaining balance ($4930 or $3930) is to be paid at the initial consultation, or paid monthly over six months, interest-free through ZipMoney.
Simply click here to learn more about ZipMoney and apply.
Any supplements or lab testing required are additional to the program fee.
What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine is the ideals of holistic medicine, through the lens of science. Treat the cause, not the symptom. Establish the cause through a detailed case taking, where your practitioner will really listen, so as to be able to make sense of your situation, and then fill in information gaps with the best of modern pathology testing.
What sort of tests will need to be done?
This will depend on the unique and dynamic needs of the client. We don't always need to get testing done, but when we do we have access to the best pathology testing to enable us to create the most accurate picture of your current health. Labs we use are:
- Precision Analytical
- Genova Diagnostics
- Great Plains Laboratory
Many of these labs are overseas and thus test results can take a few weeks to come back.
Why aren't the labs covered by Medicare, and why can't my doctor order them?
The tests we order are very different to the conventional testing you have no doubt experienced and not found to be helpful before arriving here.
Functional medicine is not conventional medicine, and thus your GP is not typically trained in the latest in functional testing. To learn about and interpret the latest in testing takes years of functional medicine training, and then is a process of constant education updates. Unfortunately, GP or not, Medicare only pays for tests that are standard, conventional medical tests.
Given these labs are privately billed, we try to balance the need for information with the need to look after your pocket book, thus the amount of lab testing we do can vary dramatically by individual situation.
What happens if I need any supplements?
While the most important elements of health revolve around lifestyle, sometimes getting a shift does require supplements. We may prescribe nutritional or herbal supplements as necessary, all of which we will fully justify to you regarding how they fit with your strategy.
Mostly we have them on site, or can tell you how to get them cheapest. Unfortunately neither Medicare or your private health insurance provider will help you bear the cost of these.
Pro-tip: bring what you already have along so that we can use them first if relevant.
Do you accept my insurance?
Unfortunately, as of April 1st 2019 most private health insurers no longer offer rebates for our services.
Please check with your health insurance provider as to whether you are covered. Functional Medicine is not as yet recognised in Australia. You will be billed as for 'Naturopathy', which is code '107' for an initial consult and a '207' for a follow-up consult.
If you are covered, we have a HICAPS facility on-site, which you can claim your private health insurance rebate from on the spot.
Do you examine children?
Jabe and Rebecca love empowering kids and teens to resolve their health concerns, set goals, lose weight, and develop healthy eating and exercise habits.
What do I need to know if I am a new patient?
Make sure to bring along any relevant or recent blood work or pathology results, as well as any current supplements or medications you may be taking.
Do you have parking facilities?
There is ample free parking available around our clinic.
Four hour parking is available on Nott Street and Princes Street. Please be mindful of permit areas.
